This is the recipe that I like to use when I make homemade pizzas for my family. I don't use a round baking sheet, I make oblong shaped ones on my cookie sheet. This recipe will feed 6-10 people.
Pizza Dough Ingredients:
1 package dry yeast
1 cup of water
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon melted shortening
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
vegetable oil
Mix the dry yeast in 1 cup of warm (not hot) water in a large bowl. After 1 full minute, stir in the sugar and 1 1/2 cups of flour. Mix in the melted shortening and salt. Stir in the remaining flour. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic (about 10 minutes). This dough will be very firm. Grease an oblong baking sheet lightly with vegetable oil. Roll out the dough onto the sheet.
Topping Ingredients:
1 (6 ounces) can tomato paste
1/2 teaspoon basil flakes
1/2 teaspoon ground oregano
1/4 teaspoon salt
dash of black pepper
1/2 cup fresh sliced mushrooms (if desired)
1/4 cup finely chopped onions
2/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup of your favorite cheese (we use Mozzarella)
1/4 lb. Italian sausage, chopped
10 slices of Pepperoni
